In the Spirit of Giving

Easter also referred to as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday is a Christian festival and cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. There are lots of traditions and ways how Easter is celebrated around the world. Most Christians will commemorate Easter by attending church services followed by families and friends gathering in their homes and churches for an Easter meal.

Here at SPHOA, 23 March 2024, we celebrated Easter with a traditional Easter Egg Hunt, Food and Drinks, Music, and a Balloon Artist. Approximately 150 adults and children were in attendance. The food, games and prizes for this event was sponsored by Ezee Fiber. As part of the preparation for this event, Latisha, the SPHOA Social Event Coordinator along with the volunteer services of her children boiled over 100 eggs, that were then dyed in bright colors, and decorated with glitter stickers, and marker designs to add a touch of glim and glamour. In addition, they stuffed over 250 plastic eggs with candy and more. Besides pizza and salad catered  by Pepperoni Pizza which had attendees coming back for more, the balloon artist stole the show. The children just could not get enough of the artistic and creative nature of the balloon designs so, they kept coming back for more.

The afternoon celebration was an added delight to the community and ended in the spirit of giving. It was a simple act of kindness or charitable donation that captured the essences of the Settlers Park Grove community and its residents. All the leftover pizzas and salads were donated to the local hospital, Habitat for Humanity and to random community neighbors. “Whether it’s a simple act of kindness, a charitable donation, or the gift of one’s time, giving is a fundamental aspect of the human experience that transcends time and culture,” (Unknown) and that is what as a community we thrive to achieve. Moreso, in a world that often emphasizes individualism and self-preservation, the act of giving stands as a beacon of selflessness and compassion. Let us continue to do what we can do no matter how small or great and do it with love. Lastly, remember, “we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give, ”  (Winston Churchill).
